Compelling Case for Giving to Buxton
|
Dear
Alumni,
There are many obvious reasons alumni choose to support
their school with an annual gift: fond memories, supporting
faculty, ensuring continuity and continuation of school
programs and traditions, helping to financially strengthen
their alma mater -- and there are many more. However, Buxton
is not, as we all know, traditional.
We are unique in almost every way from our strong community
spirit, to our approach to living and learning; we are exceptional.
Our students leave here, as is the case for most extraordinary
boarding schools, to go on to excellent, albeit more traditional,
colleges and universities.
So many of you have chosen careers or lifestyles that are
wrapped in the tradition of Buxton -- a tradition which
has encouraged you to make a difference in your own world;
your community; your profession. This is the simple success
of Buxton.
Our fundraising history has been an interesting one; never
wanting to exploit, to offend, or to expect an alum's financial
commitment. We have not at Buxton been a community of "askers,"
but the result has been that we are not a strong community
of "givers."
Regardless of personal circumstances, we have always attracted,
retained, and sought out the best and brightest students;
students who would embrace and value Buxton's philosophy.
So, somewhat naturally, it seems contradictory to turn to
our alumni on a financial basis, or to categorize you as
a group of givers.
These are, indeed, values and ideals we do not want to give
up. But money is needed. Money is needed to keep our programs
running, to retain our faculty, to maintain our buildings,
and to meet our scholarship needs. The time is now.
Please give to Buxton. Give to the best of your ability,
that is all I ask.

The Buxton Fund is a collection
of gifts, small and large, from a great many people in the
Buxton community. Together they enhance faculty resources,
financial aid, academic and extracurricular programs, and
other endeavors that matter most to the quality of each
student's Buxton experience. Gifts
can be made all at once or pledged over a period of time.
To make a gift, send a check or money order to The Buxton
Fund. Payments may also be made by VISA, MasterCard, American
Express or Discover. For your convenience, gifts and pledges
